Admission Requirements
High school graduation or its equivalent is the only scholastic
requirement for enrollment at the Body TuneUp School of massage Therapy.
Students beyond compulsory school age who are not high school graduates
may still apply to the Director of the school for entry.
Students must submit official massage transcripts showing the nature
and quality of educational efforts pursued in other schools and/or
colleges.
When to Enroll
Students may enroll at the beginning of any trimester. School trimesters begin in mid-August, mid-January, and mid-May. For exact 2001
dates, see the calendar . Pre-registration in person for classes is required, as
most courses are kept as small classes of four, and no more than
eighteen students.
Any other enrollment at any other time may be done with permission the Academic
Director of Body TuneUp of Massage Therapy.
Ability to Benefit Policy
At the
discretion of the Academic Director, an applicant may be
admitted who is deemed by the School's Academic Director to have the
ability to benefit from a course of instruction from this institution.
Student Conduct
Rules of conduct for students are few, but these few are rigidly
enforced. The administration cannot take messages for students or contact
students while in class, except in the event of an emergency. The
possession or use of alcoholic beverages, or any controlled substance,
explosives, guns, hazardous material or any other weapons on or near the
college premises is prohibited and is cause for immediate dismissal
without recourse. All such incidents shall also be reported to the
authorities, which shall have the School's complete cooperation in any
subsequent investigation. Any other stated or determined infraction of
conduct, including but not limited to disrespectful behavior to another
student, staff, or faculty member, violation of the Honor Code, or
plagiarism is cause for dismissal.
Student Grievance Procedure
The College provides an orderly procedure by which any student who has
a complaint or grievance or any student who has been charged with conduct
which leads to an imposition of any sanction by the School (including but
not limited to suspension or dismissal) may receive a hearing of the
particular problem or charge. Students are encouraged to seek a solution
first by contacting the instructor, administrator, or staff member
involved. In the absence of a solution, the Director should be consulted.
For grievances or appeals regarding academic status, obtain a copy of
the "Academic Information and Policies" booklet from the Office
of the Director.
Tuition and Fees
A detailed "Schedule of Tuition and Fees," published
separately, can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
Refund Policy
The College does not participate in federal student loan programs, or
in any California educational grant program. Therefore, payment of all
tuition and fees is governed by a binding agreement between a student and
the College, which contain legal covenants detailing the school’s refund
policy, the course which the student attends, pays tuition on, and the
amount of the tuition. This agreement also details all fees and charges
(refundable and nonrefundable), and other conditions which must be met by
the school in order for the student to be fully aware of his/her rights to
contact cancellation and refunds.
A student may cancel a contract with the School, without penalty or
obligation by the fifth business day following the first day of class
sessions for the trimester. Students must read the Notice of Cancellation
form for an explanation of cancellation rights and responsibilities, as
well as retain and read thoroughly the Enrollment Agreement.
After the end of the cancellation period, students also have the right
to stop school at any time and have the right to a refund for the period
of the course not taken. Refund rights and the formula by which refunds
are determined are presented in the Enrollment Agreement. For information
about student rights, please write or call the Bureau for Private
Postsecondary Vocational Education, 1027 10th Street, 4th Floor,
Sacramento, CA 95814-3517. Phone: (916) 455-3427.
California Student Tuition Recovery Fund
The Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) was established by the
Legislature to protect any California resident who attends a private
postsecondary institution from losing money if a student prepays tuition
and suffers a financial loss as a result of the school closing, failing to
live up to its enrollment agreement, or refusing to pay a court judgment.
To be eligible, a student must be a California resident and reside in
California at the time the enrollment is signed or when student receives
lesson at a California mailing address from an approved institution
offering correspondence instruction. Students who temporarily reside in
California for the sole purpose of pursuing an education (specifically,
those holding student visas) are not considered California residents.
To qualify for STRF reimbursement, a student must file an application
within a year of receiving notice from the Bureau that the school is
closed. If no such announcement is available, the student has up to to 4
years from the date of closure to file a STRF application. If judgment is
obtained, student must file an application within 2 years of final judgment.
For more information, please write or call the Bureau for Private
Postsecondary Vocational Education, 1027 10th Street, 4th Floor,
Sacramento, CA 95814-3517. Phone: (916) 445-3427.
Language Proficiency
The College’s programs are taught in the English language only. A
student’s language proficiency is based on the student’s ability to
comprehend spoken and printed English at an academic level. Language
services are not provided by the College.
Attendance
Unexcused absences exceeding 10 percent from start date of a course
will impact the student’s final grade and may be grounds for course
failure at the discretion of the course instructor. The instructor has
discretion for the make up of unexcused absences. The Academic Director
oversees and approves all actions taken by instructors. Make ups and
course failures (drops) are monitored only by the Academic Director.
Grading
All courses are based on a pass-fail-incomplete system of grading.
Students are graded on class achievement, participation, homework, and
special projects.
Housing Information
The School does not provide housing facilities for students but will
assist individual students seeking housing in the immediate Stockton area.
The school will provide upon request a list of local housing resources
including brief descriptions, costs, locations, and phone contacts.
Placement Assistance
The College does not place students at this time. However, it will
maintain a referral system to connect graduating students from
certification programs with prospective employers who had contacted the
College about employment opportunities for its graduates in the immediate
past trimester. The School conducts surveys of prospective employers and
employers who had previous contact with the School' on job availability
for positions matching those offered by various certification programs
offered by the School.
Course Schedule
The School publishes separately a "Schedule of Classes" for
each trimester, and is available from the Office of the Academic Director. Copies may also be picked up from the
Office of Administration by any student enrolled in a certification
program. |
