Massage Therapist Core
Course Description - 500 Hours

#101 - Deep Tissue Massage (100 hours - core class - Eligible for State career funding)
A program that prepares individuals to work deeper into the tissue as needed by client. Chronic pain conditions are often relieved by properly controlled body mechanics and elbow, forearm, knuckle applications. Also includes instruction Western (Swedish massage), sacral-cranial releases, assessment skills, anatomy and physiology. Intro to business, hygiene, self-stretches, client range of motion techniques, professional standards and ethics.

 

#102 - Therapeutic Massage (100 hours - core class - Eligible for State career funding)
A program that prepares individuals to provide relief and improve health and well-being to clients through the application of manual techniques for manipulating skin, muscles, and connective tissues. Includes instruction in Western (Swedish) massage; four deep tissue diaphragm releases, body mechanics, self-stretches and professional standards and ethics. Intro to business, hygiene, anatomy, physiology, chair massage, (Swedish) lymphatic, facial massage and pre-natal massage.

 

#103 - Sports Massage (100 hours - core class - Eligible for State career funding)
A program that prepares you to deliver a pre-event massage, athletic massage and off-track supportive bodywork so sports minded people function and perform better. Self-stretches, passive range of motion and resisted stretching (PNF) are included along with trigger point therapy and SOAP notes for decision making, orthopedic assessment skills are applied when indicated for use. Western (Swedish) massage and four types of cross fiber friction are included in the training to help relieve acute and sub-acute trauma from injuries newly incurred. Also, anatomy, physiology, hygiene, history and intro to sports business are taught. Cryo-therapy (icing) and heat applications are introduced in limited form, contraindications are taught with encouragement and learned skill to send client to primary care physician if situation is not massage appropriate.

 

#104 - Reflexologist I Massage (100 hours - core class - Eligible for State career funding)
A program that prepares individuals to provide relief of acute and chronic pain, improve health and give clients hope as reflexology is famous for helping the mind, body, emotions of mankind. Western (Swedish) massage, hand reflexology (simple), foot reflexology (extensive) is the core section along with appropriate visceral massage. The target zones of hand and foot reflexology are respiratory and urinary systems along with supportive information on reflexes of spine, brain and glands via feet/hand reflex points on body. Endocrine glands, anatomy, physiology that applies to these systems are addressed. Self-stretches, body mechanics (how not to hurt or exhaust yourself while delivering this massage), business and hygiene.

 

#105 - Reflexologist II Massage (100 hours - core class - Eligible for State career funding)
pre-requisite - Reflexology I - if being attended as part of 500 hour core course
A program that prepares individuals to provide relief of acute and chronic pain, improve health and give clients hope as reflexology is famous for helping the mind, body, emotions of mankind. Western (Swedish) massage, hand reflexology (simple), foot reflexology (extensive) is the core section along with appropriate visceral massage. The target zones of hand and foot reflexology are lymphatic, heart, blood supply and digestive systems. Exocrine glands, anatomy, physiology that applies to these systems are addressed. Self-stretches, body mechanics (how not to hurt or exhaust yourself while delivering this massage), business and hygiene.
