Body TuneUp was established in 1984 as the first massage school in the central valley. Michael Eakin the founder, created the school out of the need for a new method of teaching. His experience and training evolved with an interest in Tai Chi. During that time Michael expanded his schooling and attended specialized classes in yoga at the University of the Pacific. In addition, Michael began sharing his experience teaching yoga, self-defense, hand, foot and shoulder massage for the City of Stockton Parks and Recreation Services. Michael took workshops with Anna Rath of Magic Touch Massage in Lodi, CA. In addition he attended workshops with Loren Berry further expanding his desire to teach. Michael relocated to Pine Grove and began working for The Promised Land health resort in the sierra foothills. During the course of a year Michael gained more experience and confidence. He then started his first fulltime business Home Touch Massage. As he continued to grow his business Michael received his first of three Reiki Masterships from Harry and Dorothy Baba. Michael taught massage for the Sacramento Holistic Health Institute. Michael then formed Body TuneUp Massage service working with the Stockton YMCA. Feeling the need for a more centralized location the massage business office moved to Grand Canal, then to a medical complex on Harding Way for another three years. As the demand for certified massage therapy training became evident and the only sources were major cities like Sacramento or the bay area, Michael boldly stepped forward. Forming Body TuneUp School of Massage Therapy was a bold step, for it was the central valleys first massage school established in 1984 and has since remained a foundation for specialized training and certification in massage therapies. Since the founding of BTU Michael received his second Reiki Mastership from Danny and a third Mastership from Neli. Most recently he has been certified in Remote Viewing a highly specialized area of training from the Association of American Remote Viewers. Over the years Michael has traveled to China and on a yearly basis to study Qi Gong ,Chinese Traditional Medicine, a 3000+ year old practice. Currently Michael is working on writing and publishing several books specifically designed around his successful classroom teaching methods. These books cover years of study, application and experience in many methods of massage therapy. Furthermore, audio and video tapes as well as multimedia CD will be added to expand his publications. Looking ahead to the events for the year of 2002, Michael will be finishing a Qi-Gong Mastership that will keep in China. |
